I read Brian's Winter. Brian is still stuck in the forest after the events of the hatchet. He makes new inventions such as a hunting bow, snowshoes, and warmer clothes. The genre is realistic fiction. The main and only character we know the name of is Brian and the setting is a forest somewhere in Canada. My rating of the story is a five out of five. Most books are about how the character is sad and they set up an SOS sign and stuff like that. This book is pure survival, it makes you think about the early cavemen and how they survived.
The genre of Brian’s Winter is realistic fiction. My evidence is that the story is fictional but the aspects of the book include creatures such as bears, deer, moose, and skunk. There are no fairies, elves or other creatures. There is no magic or futuristic technology. Brian's Winter is realistic fiction and the previous sentences prove it.
My favorite character is Brian. He's my favorite character for two reasons. one because he depicts the early cavemen and how they advanced. Two because he's the only character we get the name of. That is why Brian is my favorite character and why.
The setting of the story is a forest somewhere in Canada during the fall and winter. The author Gary Paulsen did a fantastic job showing the reader the setting. Brian could be making a tool and the author would describe how the flakes of the wood slowly fell into the snow. The setting effects the plot because the winter forces him to make new inventions and clothes. Brian's Winter was a good book with an amazing plot.
I would recommend this book to EVERYONE. I would recommend this book to everyone because it was the best. It was pure survival and the main character Brian has to make inventions to help him hunt, gather and survive. I would rate this book five out of five because this story goes in depth about the survival aspect. Most stories don't talk about how the main character survives, another reason is the book makes you think the main character doesn't have plot armor. When I read it I thought Brian would die multiple times. Thank you for reading my review on the Brians's winter.
