Georgie is in first grade, but he had to repeat it twice because he couldn’t read yet. He lived with his mother and her boyfriend Steve. Georgie’s home is unstable, he would get abused by his mother, but mostly it was Steve. Until one day, he woke up on his couch after winning his prize at the supermarket lottery. He was taken to a home for boys, where Sister Mary Angela took him in. The genre of the book The Lottery Rose by Irene Hunt is a Young adult fiction. The main characters are Georgie, Sister Mary Angela, Timothy, Mrs. Harper, Old Eddie, and Robin. I think this book is a 5 out of 5. My score on the book was 100%. I think I scored this way because I paid close attention to all the important details and I didn't space out my reading time.
The genre of the book is young adult fiction. I know that it is because it isn’t fantasy. It doesn't have goblins, trolls, or monsters. It has children, teenagers, adults, normalized plants, trees, and flowers. The Lottery Rose by Irene Hunt, is a non-fiction book, which means it is not true. The book doesn’t have elves, dragons, witches, or warriors.
My favorite character in The Lottery Rose is Georgie, he is seven and a half years old. He lives in Tampa, Florida, he had to repeat the first grade twice because he did not know how to read. Georgie is my favorite character because he is a sensitive kid, he is also the main character. Georgie was taken from his abusive home into a school house for boys. In which Georgie learns how to read, and he even learns how to give and relieve love. He is in love with flowers, he won a rose bush at a supermarket lottery.
The main setting of the book is in Tampa, Florida. The year was in the 1970’s, in the beginning he used to live in a city, but in the book later on, he was placed in a school for boys in the countryside. The school is right next to an old church house. The specific year it took place was 1976, the school Georgie got placed in was right next to a beautiful garden next to a neighborhood. The school was rustic looking, with a giant white statue in the front, with a playground and other sport related activities.
I would recommend this book to any reader who loves short stories with a sad, happy, cliff hanging dialogue. I would recommend this book to those people because it has many sad parts. The book has a good story background to it. Once again I had scored a 100 percent on the quiz. I think i had scored that way because the book was small, interesting and I loved it.
