I am giving this book a three star review because, it is interesting but it gets to points where you need to know a lot, a bit too much to remember, to actually know what is happening, not to mention the whole series. This book is definitely based on fictional characters, how I know this is because their is magic, pixies, and trolls, etc, which is completely fictional. A way this book is based on fantasy is when the grandparents tell the children that the forest is magical and should stay near the house to be safe, the children don't listen, and they get attacked by some un-real creature. Overall this book is interesting and, entertaining for people that like to read complex books where they can keep up with what is happening, in the book at that time. This book is also a good reference for any magical things you like, or read.
