This book is a good book, and can be very useful if you want to learn about wolves. This book is an autobiographical nature type book or something. There are many characters (it’s a nonfiction book but I don’t know what else to call them so I’m calling them characters) and six important characters, Farley Mowat (the writer of the book), Mike, Ootek, Angeline, George, and good ‘ol uncle Albert. The book mostly takes place in the Canadian wilderness, but there are three distinct areas of the wilderness where the book mostly takes place, I will now list those places, Wolf House Bay, the cabin, and the summer den. This book is very good and everything in it is interesting and unique, I give it five stars personally.
The genre of this book is nonfiction, I think. (there are credible sources saying it is nonfiction but also credible sources saying it is fiction) I am not sure why many say it is fiction because Mowat was a biologist for the government. He also was sent to that area of Canada. He was sent there to study wolves aswell. As far as I am concerned it is a nonfiction book, atleast mostly.
This book is an autobiography about Farley Mowat’s time studing wolves in the Canadian wilderness, there is a “aha” moment that I had, if it is a fiction book then I would have a favorite character. The author, Farley Mowat, wrote this book as an autobiography of his time in the Canadian wilds when he was sent to study wolves by the Canadian government. The “aha” moment I had was when Farley wrote that wolves would sometimes prefer to be “uncle” or an “aunt” so that they could enjoy family life without having to produce a litter of puppies, part of this was also that wolves who couldn’t find a mate or whose mate died would be a “uncle” or an “aunt” in another pack. If this book is a nonfiction book, my favorite character would be uncle Albert who I won’t go into detail about because it would spoil part of the story.
There are three main settings in this book and I believe this book takes place in the 1950s or 1960s. The first main setting is Wolf House Bay where most of the book takes place, this is where Farley finds a family of wolves that consisted of a mother, a father, and four pups, wolf house bay is an esker area, this is where Farley starts researching the wolves. The second main setting is Mike’s cabin, pretty self explanatory. The third main setting is the summer den where the wolves move to once the pups get older (I don’t know how old).
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes wolves, or nature in general, (also anybody who dislikes government in general.) I recommend this book to people who like wolves because, I don’t think I need to explain why, (the entire book is about wolves.) I recommend this book to people who like nature because it isn’t just wolves in the book though they are the main focus. I recommend this book to people who dislike government in general because there is plenty of government slander, and you could learn something about wolves if you wanted to. The reason I gave this book five stars is because, It’s a very good book and I learned a lot about wolves.
