In this biography there is a little boy named Louis who became blind in both eyes when he was a young boy. He lived in a little town in France. He invented a way for blind people to read. The characters are Captain Barbier and Doctor Pignier, who he learns from, his friend named Gabriel, his brother and sister. Also his mom and dad were part of the story. I rate this book a 4/5.
The genre of this book is nonfiction. A true story about a boy who accidentally blinds himself when he was three years old by messing with his dads tools but that didn't stop him. He worked really hard to read and do things again. He went to a special school that helped him. When he got older he invented Braille. He also became a teacher and taught other kids Braille.
It's a nonfiction book and there was an aha moment when Louis invented Braille. He went to a special school for blind people in paris. When he went to that school it was hard for him and others to learn sonography taught by Captain Barbier but his idea wasn't working and all the kids were frustrated because it was hard to learn. Louis worked really hard to change the system and spent years trying to figure out another way for blind people to read. He finally did it after years of hard work and invented Braille. When he grew up he became a teacher and taught other people how to do Braille.
The setting is in 1821 and he lived in France in a small village of Coupvray that's where he was borned and raised. Then when he became blind and was having trouble with school he had to move to the city of paris and the school he went to was called the Royal Institution for Blind Youth. This school had strict rules and back in that time there weren't a lot of options for these blind kids to learn much. That motivated Louis to make a better way for blind people to read and write. He did this by poking dots in paper so blind people can feel them with their fingers and that is how they are able to read and write today.
Who I would recommend this book to is my brother because it's really inspiring and he likes these kinds of books and he is interested in things that have happened in the past. I scored this book a 4/5 because it is really interesting and has a good ending. Also, I haven't read a good book like this in a long time.
